Duties and responsibilities of the Directorate


  • To set guidelines to prioritize, formulate, and implement community development projects targeted at bringing solutions for major constraints to development
  • To build the capacity of colleges/schools so as to conduct community service projects; and to engage in community based activities and consultancy services
  • To ensure the transfer and dissemination of research outputs to end users Roles and Responsibilities of Wachemo University Community Service Directorate
  • Assess and identify community service thematic areas based on local and national priorities, and update these over time in consultation with the Research and Community Service Vice President in particular, and higher administrative officials at Wachemo University in general
  • Develop working documents and guidelines or standards appropriate for community service implementation.
  • Coordinate all community services organized at the university level.
  • Promotes university’s (strategic goal, mission, vision) plan implementation and achievements through community service/ programs.
  • Support and follow up community service providers under College and Schools and Community service provision centres like free legal aid centres, etc. of the university.
  • Ensure that the communities are primary beneficiaries of the planned and executed community services.
  • Organize workshops, forums, symposia, exhibitions & consultative meetings, related to community service issues
  • Coordinate and create conducive environment for community service provision Build institutional capacity for productive and sustainable community service delivery
  • Aid necessary materials, financial and institutional conditions for planning and implementing community service.
  • Establish frequent and ongoing contact with academic staff and students to enhance their community engagement.
  • Prepare and facilitate short term trainings for the staff under his/her supervision, and provide feedback
  • Represent the university, document, report and communicate on matters related community service to concerned internal and external bodies
  • Collect feedback from communities, customers and other stakeholders to review and update community service activities
  • Monitor and evaluate processes and outcomes of community services.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Research and Community Service vice-President
