The research will focus on the role of urban and rural agriculture in enhancing the
livelihood of the metropolitan of Hossana town within 20km radios. The practice of Rural
and Urban Agriculture includes the cultivation of crops, vegetables, herbs, fruits, flowers,
parks, forestry, fuel wood, livestock (cattle rearing for dairy products, sheep, goats,
poultry, and so forth), aquaculture, bee keeping and so forth. However, the scope of this
project will be limited to investigating the existing trends of the agricultural productions
and its significance roles for both rural and urban dwellers, based on a survey of a sample
of members from farm households and producers’ cooperatives in the areas. The major limitation to the study will be that its findings could not be compared with previous data
because of lack of previous statistics on rural and urban agriculture in the areas.
